QUESTION

From Jeff - (12/26/2022)
Hey, have a question I'd like to ask. Maybe you've encountered, or discussed, it with other buddies "our age". ED is beginning to arrive--I still, fortunately, get hard but it's not like the good old days! Tried Viagra but didn't do much. Have a friend in OKC who is using a tool that he treats himself with 2-3 times a week that stimulates the blood vessels, etc. He says it works! ??? Visited with another buddy who has started using tri mix injections with some success. There was a time I could hang a towel on my erections.......and now they might hold up a wash cloth. lol. Have you encountered any "friends" that are experiencing this and, if so, any suggestions? I play very VERY seldom........guess I'm a bit too selective. Plus I like to establish a comfort and trust level before a playtime. BUT I DO DELIGHT IN THE JOYS OF PLEASURABLE MAN SEX.(If any of our members has a response, send them to - LVjupiter.NE@gmail.com -
and I will post them here).

Hello, (response on 07/31/2024)
Retired family medicine clinician here. Unfortunately, erectile dysfunction (ED) is often "the canary in the mine" with regards to narrowing of blood vessels in arteries that occur in the heart, kidneys, penis, and elsewhere! It is also associated with inadequately managed high blood pressure and diabetes, anxiety & depression. As we've been told, the brain is the largest sex organ of the body, and if you have "issues" with men who have sex with men (many gay and bisexual men do, especially among those of us with rough childhoods), then best advice is to address these issues first with your primary care provider.
However, there are some great treatments for ED: you've already mentioned Viagra (sildenafil), but if ineffective, you may try Cialis (tadalafil). Some patients may derive benefit from the change, as they are mildly different, and Cialis does last longer than Viagra. Eroxon is a new topical medication that should soon be available if it isn't already. It works by rapidly cooling the head of your penis and through an interesting pharmacologic pathway, causes lasting erections. Once applied, it should not rub off inside your partner's mouth or ass.
One more thing to be aware of. As we age, medication and treatments for anything may change, because aging causes changes in how our body's metabolism changes (breaking down medications into usable forms), and many medications we may take may in fact interact with ED medications or may cause unwanted side effects even without ED meds. Tamsulosin, for example is commonly given for benign enlargement of the prostate, which is a normal consequence of aging. Tamsulosin may cause weird effects such as retrograde ejaculation, or altered sense of pleasure during orgasm.
Good luck!

ARE YOU DIABETIC?
It's funny. It took my conversion to veganism for me to really start caring about animals and our environment.

I think that's true for most of us. I'm curious about what made you decide to go vegan. Would you share your story?

Barbara Huning, I'd read that the "problem" with diabetes is not in the carbs we consume but the oils and fats we eat. They keep insulin from affecting sugar in blood cells. I was desperate so I decided to give up meat for a month.
My sugar numbers have been in non-diabetic range for close to 2 years now.
The reason more diabetics don't know about this is their doctors don't know it. And the reason their doctors don't know it is because of the meat industry. Can you imagine if they recommended everyone become vegan?

Andre Monde I am so excited to hear your dramatic recovery story! There's a lot of great research coming out about blood sugar stabilizing on a plant-based diet.
Doctors are slowly but surely getting the message. The largest managed care company in the US, Kaiser Permanente, formally encourages all of their medical providers to recommend all patients adopt a whole food plant based diet because it produces better health outcomes. I'm sure that the dramatic reduction in healthcare costs is also motivating for KP. They pay much less for the average plant-based eater than they do for most people who eat animal products. This isn't a link to their original announcement (which happened a few years ago), but you can easily find it online.

Andre Monde I’ve been hearing a long time about change in diet for diabetics.
Doctors know and so does big pharma. Neither can afford to lose patients.
I’ve always love animals and l have cut back on meat, mainly because of the cost. I eat a lot of chicken and don’t believe l could ever go full vegan.
I’m glad it’s working for you, though.
